Privacy policy

Last updated: 2026-10-21

This policy explains how the Windows app Audiscene ("the app") and this website handle data. The app is developed and maintained by DotKacter.

In short

  • There's no account to create. We don't collect your name, email address or phone number.
  • Audio from your phone travels only over your local network or Bluetooth. It is never uploaded to the internet.
  • To show album art and lyrics, the app sends the current track's artist, title and album to third-party music databases.
  • The app sends anonymous usage statistics that contain no track or device names.
  • Each of these online features can be turned off in Settings.

01Track lookups

To show album art, fill in missing album details and display synced lyrics, the app sends the current track's artist, title, album and length to the services below. Album detail lookups also include the country code of your Windows region, so results match your local store.

ServiceUsed forPrivacy policy
MusicBrainzMatching albums to artworkmetabrainz.org/privacy
Cover Art ArchiveDownloading album artarchive.org/about/terms
Apple iTunes Search APIAlbum art and album detailsapple.com/legal/privacy
Deezer APIAlbum artdeezer.com/legal/personal-datas
LRCLIBSynced lyricslrclib.net

These requests carry no account or device identifier. Like any internet connection, though, the receiving server sees your IP address and handles it under its own policy.

You can turn off "Fetch high-resolution album art", "Fill in missing album info online" and "Synced lyrics (LRCLIB)" under Settings › Metadata. Once they're off, the app stops sending these lookups.

02Anonymous usage statistics

To see whether the app works properly and which receivers people use, the app sends anonymous usage statistics through Aptabase, stored on Aptabase's servers in the United States. This is everything that is sent:

EventDetails
App startedOpened manually or at Windows startup
Source connectedSource type (Bluetooth, DLNA, AirPlay and so on)
Playback errorSource type and error category (for example "missing decoder")
App errorName of the error type, without the error message
Pro purchaseYour choice in the purchase dialog (buy, try, cancel) and the purchase result

Each event also includes the Windows version, app version, interface language and a randomly generated session number. The session number is replaced after 60 minutes of inactivity, so it cannot identify you or your PC over time.

Statistics never include tracks, artists, artwork, device names, your PC's name, accounts or anything you type. The app doesn't put your IP address in the statistics; Aptabase sees it when the request arrives and, according to its privacy policy, uses it only to estimate your country or region and does not store it.

You can turn off "Send anonymous usage statistics" under Settings › General. Once it's off, no events are sent.

03Local network and Bluetooth

DLNA / UPnP and AirPlay work only on your private local network. So that your phone can find it, the app announces a player name that includes your PC's name (for example "Audiscene (My PC)") on the local network, where other devices on the same network can see it.

Audio, track details and artwork sent by your phone travel only between your phone and your PC. The app never forwards them to the internet, apart from the lookups described in section 01. During installation, the app opens only the firewall ports it needs, and only for private networks.

04Purchases

Payments for Audiscene Pro are handled by Microsoft Store. The app only asks Microsoft Store whether your account owns Pro; it never sees your payment details. For how Microsoft handles your data, see the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

05Data stored on your PC

Settings, the album art and lyrics cache, and log files are stored only on your PC (in the app's folder under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\). Logs may contain debugging details such as track and phone names; they don't leave your PC unless you choose to send them to us. All of this is removed when you uninstall the app.

06This website

This website is a static site hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. The only thing it remembers is the language you pick, stored in your browser (localStorage) and never sent anywhere. To deliver pages and protect against attacks, Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address; see the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

07Children

The app isn't designed for children, and it doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

08Your rights

Because we don't collect data that identifies you, we usually can't find records that belong to you in the statistics. If you have questions about your data, or want to exercise rights you have under laws such as the GDPR, please get in touch and we'll do our best to help.

09Changes

If the app starts sending new kinds of data, or the recipients change, we'll update this policy first and change the date at the top of the page.
